With Christmas just around the corner, families are flocking to Newport to see the historical structures decked out for the holidays.
Michaela made her way to The Elms on Tuesday to see some of the states finest historical collections, to get some amazing gift ideas for this holiday season and to check out some stylish decorations.
She met with Elizabeth Warburton, the Collections Manager of the Preservation Society, who said that their collection has over 60,000 objects which are distributed across the 10 Newport Mansions. The collections include everything from furniture to paintings, books to jewelry and some of the most special pieces are part of the Preservation Society’s costume collection.
The costume pieces on display Tuesday included a lady’s yachting parasol, a powder blue feather boa, white court shoes, beige kid leather arm-length gloves and a fan with a Tiffany and Company fan case. All of these pieces are from the 1900s and are related to historical figures, such as the Berwind Family.
